He was born December 2, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan. <BLOCKQUOTE>Dr. Weinberg was a Research Professor in Astronomy and Space Science at the University of Florida and Director of its Space Astronomy Laboratory, a research center which he founded and moved to Gainesville from the State University of New York at Albany in 1980 to develop the first major space science program in the State of Florida.<P>Dr. Weinberg has directed laboratory, ground, and space science projects and technology development with groups in Europe, Asia, Australia, India, and the U.S. He has published 160 papers in professional journals and books, primarily in the areas of photoelectric photometry and polarimetry, atmospheric optics and radiation, physics of the interplanetary medium with emphasis on cosmic dust, measurement and analysis of orbital debris, and ground, laboratory, and space instrumentation.<P>Jerry is survived by his wife, Marcia Weinberg; two sons, Mark and Scott; and three grandchildren, Cameron, Kate and Lucy. A Celebration of Life was held Friday, November 30, 2018.</BLOCKQUOTE> I had the privilege to meet Jerry a few years ago and purchase a Skylab model and few other items from him. What a super fellow. He was a principal investigator on the Pioneer space probe as well as Skylab. It was his experiment that was not used so that the airlock could be used for the parasol sun shade. <P><center><iframe width="400" height="225" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LkSaovJIgxk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

I will miss his stories and just wished I would have kept in closer contact in the last few months. Jerry, you are higher than Pioneer will every be.
